A couple of years ago I was given several pots of dormant bulbs, I can ID all except this one I am hoping someone here can help...

Passiflora's are climbers not bulbs.

Not Passiflora, heres a pic of the whole plant the colour is a bit off but the smaller one on the left of pic is true to the bluish colour. Joel,

Joel, agreed passiflora are not bulbs but not all Passiflora are vines, some are shrubs and some are herbaceous perennials.
See link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passiflora . Have a look at the diversity of Euphorbeacea, anything from caudiciform,desert succulents to towering trees.

My only guess is a species, or cultivar, or close alliance to the tulip as the foliage is very tulip like and the internal structure of the sexual parts of the flower is also somewhat reminiscent of a tulip. Just a guess but maybe. Were there tulips among the other bulbs that you obtained at that time?

Just saw your other post with the whole plant. Not Tulip either.

No tulips in the mix, the only thing that was supposed to be but I have never seen are the dutch iris. The tete e tete daffodils are my favorite, from 2 bulbs they have multiplied to about 15 in no time!

I am off to start trawling thru the link Joel posted above... I started by searching Allium's as I have been unable to ID one I have (still no luck), now to move on to finding my mystery bulb, wish me luck

Good luck The shape of your mystery flower also looks like a re-flexed Iris but my searching turned up nothing. The plant looks a bit like the way Belamcanda grows but most of those are perennials not bulbs.

Hi MattA just wanted to say how much I enjoy your posts. They give me a starting point to explore this www. For the last hour I've discovered the wonderful genus of Passilora.
Your koala is still my favorite though, such a simple thing yet intricate at the same time.

Thanks again for that link, I can see myself spending alot of time there... so many plants so little garden

I actually tracked it , not from that link, but by recognising that it was related to the iris/belamcamda group and narrowing it down from a couple of pics on Google search, images.
Jeff. post a pic of the Allium, not promising anything though.

Ok, heres pics. I have always known it as a Glass onion but you can imagine what comes up when you search that phrase....
This clump has been in the pot for almost 3yrs, slowly increasing in girth & numbers. The flower stems can get to between 3-5' long and the leaves on the one in the garden are about 18" long. As each leaf dies right back it reveals little protobulbs just waiting to drop off into the ground the increase the clump. Now your will tell me its not an Allium, after going thru the list & its not a short one!!!
