Cottoneaster (is this normal?)

I have had this tree almost a year and have never had it do this. It seemed to be a great health at the start of winter and all I can think of is it may have gotten too wet. Last week I repotted it into a better soil and trimmed away any roots the looked bad. I don't think I cut more the 40% of the roots away and it's still got plenty of fine feeder roots. Since then it has gotten worse Burgas also started to push our it's berries.

Its not dropping leaves but they are changing color and going brown.
Any ideas?
Any advice?
Cheers

I'm sure they can take more root pruning than that, what about frost?
If you are worrying about the health remove the berries.
Best of luck

Thats nothing to worry about. I think they are semi deciduous and drop a few leaves in winter. It should be jumping away with spring growth soon. Make sure its getting sunlight.

They are not berries at this time of year, they are flower buds. It looks like Cotoneaster horizontalis and they sometimes get reddish coloured foliage in winter. Looks OK to me. Keep watered and I think you will see it flower and start to get new leaves in a couple of weeks.

Have a look at some of the winter foliage on these pics.

It's not horizontalis I have one of those as well and it's a bit different. I think it's microfolia .

... might want to clear out those spider(s) though
can't be too bad if it's throwing out flowers

My Cottoneaster (Horizontalis) has also recently experienced browning of ALL leaves.
I thought it may be experiencing root rot like my previous cottoneaster. But all the roots are in beautiful condition... I guess it could be the seasonal change (Mid autumn)
