I don't know how that happened but I managed to put a post on a Locked topic and then realised no one could comment, I couldn't even edit it. Anyway, here it is in a new topic. I received the tree on Friday in good condition. I potted and did an initial style that very day. You can probably see where I am going with this, it is still early days but I'm happy with its progress so far. (Two Days) Now for some recovery time. I must thank Rayfam for all the trouble he went to in sending it to me from Melb.

Top picture, while it was still in the styro box. Take off the top right hand leader making the lower left hand branch your apex. I would have then designed it into a semi cascade in the direction it is heading in. Could also be a windswept in that direction but, for mine the semi would look good. Bare branches with Berries hanging off them does it for me.

i also had a idea simular to you bodhi, maybe a little more literati but with a extended primary left hand branch.

Thanks Bodhi, That is a option, but to my way of thinking to get the tail of a semi cascade below the rim of the pot on the left, would take a very large tilt in the trunk or some time to wire and grow the branch down that far. My other thought was to extend the right hand branch sweeping down at the same angle of the trunk and make the apex or foliaged part of the tree over the base of the trunk. Anyway,early days and all options are still possible. I just love the aged trunk and the main objective at the moment is to get it healthy. You love bare branches with berries? Do Pyracanthas go bare down there or do you mean defoliate it? They are very much evergreen here.

Nice score Hack, I have had a similar one sitting around the yard since collecting and decided it was time to do something with it. I now see although very similar yours is better stock than mine.
I would have started with something like this again using that lower thick branch as the new line.
Did you take that large branch off?

The large branch, or continuation of trunk, on the right was partly dead and very weak growth. It was also too thick for the top of the tree and did nothing for the taper. Your virt is good except the left branch needs to come down to a horizontal or lower angle. Some suggested a Literati, but it is my belief that Literati should only be done on small leafed or needled species and I don't feel that a pyracantha would be conducive to that style with its lush foliage, flowers and luscious berries. Just doesn't seem stark or harsh, as Literati should depict.

No, i mean defoliate it but i cant see why it needs to go below the rim of the pot. I meant leave the trunk as is but extend the left hand branch to just above the rim of the pot.
