stylin' advice

Hello to all,
Just after any advice and ideas in regards to styling, placement and species of tree.
Thinking of a firethorn(see pics) or crepe myrtle .
All comments are app.

I assume you are wanting to make Tanuki out of it on the wood stump?
If so. Get it planted and attached before the thin whips grow and harden off otherwise you will never bend them to shape. Then plant out into a larger pot fora few years to add girth and attach to the stump.

Do you think i should plant of to one side or plant in the centre behind (per virt) and should the base of the trunk be visible in some way??
Cheers Gerard, I was a bit unclear in my post. I'm aware that it is a pyra but just unsure if the trunk colour tone of a Crepe would be a better match.

G'day,i think tanuki should have the live vein showing at the start and side of the base rather then hiding it behind the back which was practised in years passed. If it were mine i would plant to the left hand side and use the first natural fold as the groove and then take it behind and go from there. I would also get some more carving in the wood before starting. Good luck and have fun.

Hi all,
Just thought I'd post an update of the Pyracantha tanuki.
I have had it potted in the ground, contained in a pot reducing rootzone and increasing growth for a couple of seasons.
I dug and potted in spring and have just recently pruned and begun training.
The tree is finally starting to take shape and it feels very rewarding
Still being a total novice any advise at this stage would be greatly appreciated.

Still green so thats good
Branches need to now increase in thickness now so let them grow out. when they are a nice size, cut them back to start to ramify and build foliage pads.
