I reckon you will need to do some work on the branches and roots but that is part of the fun having a new tree

Good trunk, good bones, nice score.
Have a look at Grant's "Hong Lin" threads - although they are technically a different style ("penjing" rather than "bonsai") I think the way Hong Lin arranged the fine branching is very graceful and wonderful - not just hedge-clipping to make pads. I'll be studying those photos for years.
