Got the nutter working overtime sorting new benches . Managed to get my hands on some trampoline frames and you guessed it another old ladder got a work over as well . With the Bear growing things need lifting up . These 3 were knocked up over the last few days , Minimal welding was done as most of the steel work was sleeve together or in one case the whole assembly was sleeved and spring pinned . The surrounds made the platforms and the legs and braces made up the legs for the stands .All up from 5 old tramps and 1 old ladder i have or will make 6 raised stands in Gal steel and treated pine decking and 2 more long benches . All are definitely load bearing and in Aluminium or Gal should outlast me .

Now with 40 % of my stock put back in the ground , i can't work out why i need all these benches , the tooth fairy must be dropping plants off in my sleep .Hopefully with another day or two to spare i will create another unique bench or two and that should keep the plants safe . Many thanks to all who helped out with the donated materials and help to move the tree's , i most certainly appreciate the kind gesture , even if my wife didn't at the time understand , i wasn't collecting scap metal , i had a plan .

I have the vertical poles (potective frame) of the kid's dead trampoline and am looking at something similar, although i don't have the welder for it!

Great job - wonder if my neighbour will notice his ladder go missing....

Hi Guys , all up 2 racks have a total 6 welds apart from the mesh .Bench number 2 has only the slip joins, no welds , i added 1 tek screw to every joint so they don't flex and fall apart when lifted . Easily made by flatting the end of a cross members and screwing or bolting together .

Hi Barry , the plan for today went skipping out the front driveway . Looks like fencing not bench building today . Might be down Mate , but not out for the count that's for sure .

I am now inspired. I have been eyeing of an old bed frame at a mates for this exact purpose, this thread just gave me the kick in the butt i needed to finally get my plastic potted stuff up off the ground.

I really need some benches myself, but I dare say anything I could make would pushing it to even be functional and serve its purpose.

Hi Mate the only issue is load bearing weigh . I have a couple of powder coated white bunk bases made from 40 x 20mm box tubing with 16mmx 16mm cross members . These bases are OK if the legs were placed towards the center as the light guage box won't handle the wet load of the pots .

Hi Dario , mate i have knocked up another in square box frame and made some scoria beds out of the area . This will keep the humidity up over summer and hopefully keep the weeds at bay a little more than sand trays . As well as using a couple of old terracotta pots to sit a timber frame on just to get them off the ground .All loaded up for another season . Plenty of help today , made progress beyond my expectations .

Speak of the devil...I found a triangular bed frame yesterday(never seen one before) that a neighbour left out with a "please take me" note on it.
I also picked up a bunch of "good as new" lengths of treated pine (don't know the technical term for long bits of wood ) from my brother who is a chippy
This weekend I will knock something up, but I may just brace the wood together with cross sections and then place it on some crates to get it off the ground. Not pretty, but should work and also look better once the plants are sitting on top.

Hi Dario , mate i like the sound of re-cycling , another man's trash is another man's treasure . Had another "Oh Bugger" moment this time on the leg , not looking good .

Hi Marone , mate , most of the trampolines can be screwed together as the all have male -female slip joins . A screw will definitely hold them in place . I only used the welder because it saved time in scolloping the half round sections out so they can be screwed together . A 45 degree miter will be pretty close to the profile require to use bolts or screws .
