After seeing a Radiata in a recent post I thought I would go on a hunt.
Image 1 is how it came out of the ground, it looks like it had already been dug and just plonked on the ground
I hope that I got enough of the root system for it to survive

(the finer white ones are from grass I think) The last 4inches was dead so that had to go but other than that the branching and growth seems out of control. If it dose live I wont have a shortage of branches to choose from

Thats exactly how I have collected radiata pines over the years. Just pot it into sharp sand and you should be fine with it.

Thank Brian. I did the same thing last year and it eventually died, I might give this one some fert at the recommended dose for seedlings and see how that goes.
I wonder why there is so much branching

No, don't fertilize yet. Just some liquid plant starter and put into partial shade. My theory is to collect half a dozen pines and if half die you still have a couple to survive and work on.

Thanks again Brian. I did give it a dose of Seasol. I have also read that you don't water newly dug trees to often as it helps promote root development.
I am surrounded by pine forests here so I should get into it them. I would like to see yours if you have any. Cheers Dave
