Scarlet Oak - still dormant

Hi All.
Long time surfer, first time poster.

I bought a 'scarlet oak' i want to bonsai, which i planted in early to mid August, along with a Japanese Maple, before the buds on either tree had begun to swell.
The maple has shot off, but the oak is yet to produce any leaves.
Am i being impatient and it's actually normal for an oak to stay dormant for so long?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi panas_playground,
good to see you out in the open. welcome.
Oaks tend to be quite late to open leaves so i would not be too worried yet. My English Oak is just starting to open buds.

My oak came out much slower than my Acers, however i am still waiting for my copper beech to come out of sleep... getting worried also but it does look to me like the buds have swelled somewhat (fingers crossed).

I always find a little nick into the trunk or branch in a discrete area of the tree will let you know if anyone is home!
Meaning if it is green the tree is still alive.. Brown or simply no moisture then it may very well have carked it!

Good Luck!
