soil advice

G'day everyone im Aaron new to site and to the art of bonsai

i have a question about bonsai potting soil. i just bought some form the local nursery the brand they stock is GrOwbetter. seems like plan old potting mix. my plan is to sieve it to 1/4" then add 1/4" sand to it would this be a good place to start? i hoping to grow afew river red gums in it. if that helps.

Hi Aaron,

Welcome to AusBonsai! :aussie: ...and bonsai in general!

I have not used Growbetter bonsai potting soil, but I think you plan to add some coarse sand is sound. You may find that you lose a lot of the potting soil though, as it is usually quite fine. :lost:

Since you are look into RRG, check out FlyBri's posts, he seems to have done a lot with them. I on the other hand can offer you no advice on natives!
