Hi all,
I thought some may be interested about the history of this Wisteria. This was the second tree I bought when I first started Bonsai.

It eventually flowered this year. There were 50 flowers. Now I know it will flower I'll do some more work on the tree, and look for an appropriate pot.

Hi Ray M , mate your a very patient man . I doubt if i could wait that long , i'd have to graft a flower bud or two onto it .

Would you believe I intended to do some grafts this year. When I checked the tree I couldn't believe my eyes to see all the flower buds.

Hi all,
This Wisteria flowed very nicely this year. There are about 100 racemes. The tree is still on the ground amongst a whole lot of other trees. I'll remove it this year and put it into a bonsai pot.

Nice mate, worth the wait I love wisteria. Got 2 small ones. Hope I don't have to wait 25 yrs to see it flower.

I don't really know the answer to that question. I have done some things differently over the last few years. When I was developing the trunk and structure, the tree was pruned quite a bit. If you want them to flower you need to stop pruning at the right time to allow the flowers to develop. I also started feeding the tree more and foliage feed.

Peter Valder is the guru of Wisterias in Australia and has published a superb book on this subject. Basically it comes down to where you live and which Wisteria you have. Ray M has a Japanese Wisteria and lives in an area that is considered mild temperate. Any of the Chinese , sinensis species or cultivars are suitable in warmer winter areas. Japanese,W. floribundas are notorious for slow flowering and as Ray experienced can take decades to flower, if at all. My most reliable are W.sinensis purple, and cultivars, Jako and Wisteria brachybotrys) 'Shiro-kapitan' . I have grafted Chinese onto worthwile Japanese trunks to get flowers. Most others have proven to be very disappointing over the 40 or so years that I have been experimenting with them. That is an excellent article that is linked above.
