This tree is on my way to work. Speed by today to ask the owner what it is. She wasn't sure, but thought it was a type of cedar, because of the seed Congress - cedar roses? Here's some photos:

Needles are about 2-3 inches long, and apparently the tree is about 100 years old.

Looks like Cedrus deodara to me. Those cones look like just the top of the cones, not full length.

Certainly a cedar and with needles that long almost certainly Cedrus deodar. When the cones are ripe - about midsummer- they open and break up to release the seeds. The tops often stay together on the ground to give these 'cedar roses'. If it is well over 100 years old it may be showing the adult 'flat top' or weeping branch shape of a mature cedar. younger trees are usually more 'pine' shaped.

Thanks Hackimoto and Shibui. Looking at google images for C. Deodara, I reckon that's the one. Certainly matches the look of the tree. Now to research cultivation...
Nice work team!
