These are a few root cutting laying around doing nothing , so i thought i would slip them out of their pots slop them onto a custom made rock and slap them into a trainer pot . Easy as 1-2-3 . They look better than scattered around the ground and in the green house . What can be done in an hour , This can .

The last picture reminds me of an ancient eroded temple, maybe mayan-esque

Hi Mate , i keep everything until someone makes a suitable offer or i tear them apart and re-design them into something different .

That rock looks cool Alpine and I like the way you have placed the elm in the crevices How will it go bare rooted this time of the year mate .
I know one thing, them elms buck bud,I purchased my first two about a month ago and trunk chopped them to get some lower growth which is already 2"long I think I stuffed one though...
Im going on a fishing adventure on Sunday and will be passing sections of land slips with tones of slate so I hope to come home alive with some good pieces:tu2:

Hi Booga , the rock was purpose made for this type of planting , however it took 3 years to plant it out .Idon't worry about elms too much as these are root cuttings that were collected from the compost heap a season or two ago . Noxious weeds but the grow like mad with a bit of moisture . If i loose a couple i have plenty more . I always look to nature to expose good collectable material , wash outs o the side of a road can produce quality material with character , as does land slips and floods .

Hi there, that rock looks great, have you had to use muc at all to keep the roots locked in the crevise?

Hi Mal , i don't use muck on any root over rock as i want the root to clasp the rock in 1 season .By using a coating on muck under the roots and another on top the roots take numerous seasons to clasp onto it , and i have never found it beneficial for any plant yet . Landscapes are different although i don't use a muck as such , merely my bonsai mix and treat the landscape as a pot/tray .

The roots are held in by the rough texture coating , if i was to carve a solid rock i try to carve a close to the thickness of the root being used . Most of the finer feeder roots on these Elms are down into the soil , i simply wiped some wet bonsai mix into the crevices , this will wash out over time and expose the outline and natural texture of the root itself .
