Hi all,
As briefly mentioned in another thread, I have a fig tree (type unknown)that needs some TLC, I rescued him from a dark corner of a nursery near Maitland about four years ago, cut him in half and repotted him into a foam box. The only work I have done since is water, seasol and defoliate him a few times a year.
I have wanting to pull him out for some time now. Unfortunately, time is my enemy. I have some pictures to show to get started but will add more as I go. Please feel free to add comments etc. I have a few ideas which way I would like to go but being new to this hobby and seeing what some members do to their trees, the results that they achieve amazes me, who know where this will end.

A bit more fertiliser would speed up development of your fig. Seasol has low levels of nutrients and is designated a 'soil conditioner' rather than a fertiliser. Use some stronger fertiliser as well as the seasol. Figs just love to be fed!

I like the first front with the smaller trunk towards the front. If it was mine I'd take the taller trunk (rear on the first views) off the small tree and reduce the height of the larger trunk about halfway up where a branch comes off to the front left. Also remove the lower branch which comes out over the smaller trunk to give the smaller trunk room to develop.
Hope these ideas make sense. Always hard to tell from a photo so hope I have seen the structure correctly.

Thank you for your ideas, I will have a lot to think about over the next few days.

I would guess it's a PJ but an expert may be able to confirm. You should use pelletized chook poo and feed it lots until it gets to the size you want. As shibui said seasol is not a fertiliser but a soil conditioner. By all means use it fortnightly or monthly but in conjunction with a fertiliser with NPK content.

Finally i have been able to organise my self today and pull old mate out of his home for the last 4 years. I have held off on the chop for now, he can recovever from the repot first i think. Not always the way it is done but i need to find out what I can treat the branches when I cut them please anyone. After looking from the top view I did not like the look.
