Hey all,
Inspired by some recent posts, I cut this privet out today... hoping it'll survive!

This should recover no problem
Wait till it shoots back, then select your new leader and chop back again. Nice an low will be my preference.

they're amazingly tough trees, i have about 30 suckers in the ground from my first yamadori tree and i keep cutting them back to ground level and within a month they're full of foliage again. good luck, interested to see what you do with it.

time to update this tree. have just been hacking back at the new growth over the last while, but today decided to do the first styling. no doubt, it's an ugly straight stump. today I was pleasantly surprised when cutting back the roots to find a new nebari, jinned a few of the higher roots and tilted the tree to find a nicer fatter base. eventually, maybe at next session in winter, I'll drill/carve out the centre of the trunk, with little leak holes here and there. any comments welcome, was a struggle to be creative with this one.
