[WANTED] Maple

Any maple. I haven't seen a single maple in a nursery that jumps out at me. They're either all big trunks with nothing special about them that have been chopped at the top or they're pre-bonsai. I'm looking for bonsai maple that I can work on that actually looks like a small maple (if that makes sense). Any species, as long as it can survive the climate on the Gold Coast. I'm not really sure what I'm looking for, I'll know it when I see it.
Cheers

You could try shibui - Neil has some pre bonsai Trident maples at very good prices. Even though he is in VIC he will post

I have...don't remember seeing anything that struck me. This was months ago though. Do you have something in mind?

I had a look at Defined Bonsai about a week ago and he had a couple of maples there. Didn't get a good look though as my two year old was not in a good mood so had to leave after a couple of minutes.

Hi Emily , i have these Tridents that may interest you if you haven't already purchased a specimen .
100_9976.jpg
Numbers - 1-2-3-5 Trident Maple - Acer Buergerainum 3yo -$60 - 4yo -$75 - 6yo -$145 - 7yo -$180 . Number 4 Trident Maple -Acer Serrulatum Taiwan Trident -Very Rare , new foliage has Autumn tones 5yo -$175 . Postage and Packing to Brisbane is $25 . The Japanese Maple has a limited growth area and tends to struggle along the beach area's , Higher up in the foot hill's they tend to grow in various pockets so i would be a good idea to get some smaller seedlings to try in your area rather then purchase an established tree and have it die . If you look around your neighborhood and find a Japanese Maple growing then you know it will survive . More pics available if required .

Nice trees, just not what I'm looking for. I'm looking for something a bit older, with good trunk movement and nebari, though you do raise a good point about established plants dying in improper conditions. Though, if it's a trident I'm sure it would be fine. Do you have older stock?

Still looking. Has to have nice movement, not just a stump chopped off at the top and dug out of the ground.

tell me how much you looking to spend. I or shibui maybe able to help. Japanese maples may struggle depending on what part gold coast you are in. i know they do ok in the hinterland.
