Ok so time to finally get around to putting up some of my trees i am working on. Some of them are going to be larger trees and some smaller. I love junipers because they are so quick to form nice little trees that you can play and practise with while developing your skills for larger or future trees. Silly me only remembered to get the camera out after i removed the tree from its nursery pot, cleaned up all the inner dead branches and took away branches that i knew i did not need,

This is a juniper i picked up at a local flower power in a 10cm pot and started work on it 2 months ago and have not done anything since. Below is the progression to date from the 13/10/12 until this monrning (last 2 pics) where the tree is destined this week for some much needed refinement work and selection of branches to keep and discard etc. Also more wiring.

I used a technique to trim back the foliage before wiring to develop branches that i found on a wedbite blog somewhere but i will try to dig up that link for you all in the coming days - interesting read.

Please feel free to critique this tree as much as you like as i never take offence to anything said, i only take useful information to learn and develop with.

And here is my rickety makeshift bonsai bench from recycled old timber lying around. Lots of trees under development to keep me occupied and have fun learning on.

Hi K2BONSAI , Mate thats a nice little cascade in the making . If it was mine i would turn the first branch up or back in the opposite direction to balance the tree more .A man after my own heart with your recycling and the display bench is as good as anything i have here , maybe even a tad bit better .

Thanks for the advice Alpine. The top placement was just a rough start with something in mind like attached below..... ie grow a new left branch, then use the current tip to be the right branch whilst growing the trunk back to the left etc...

Would love to hear some thoughts on this or if you could slap a few curves on a pic to show me your thoughts would be great.

They are some variety of conifer. Unfortunately i am renting.... however.... you can just make out a forth one on the right which is much smaller and scraggly. This is due to the fact it is right under another tree?!? I have no idea who was the idiot, even to the point that the left conifer is in the lawn outside the bushrocked edges of the garden bed

So my plan this weekend might very just be to try to dig up the 4th tree as it was going to be cut down anyway as it is useless where it is and i have the owners permission to remove

The only problem.... I am not really a huge conifer fan. Maybe it is just lack of skills in that department (apart from my overall lack of skills...he he), but even the conifers done by the masters are just ok in my mind.... Give me nice decidious trees or figs any day!! I also put pines into the same boat for my mind. I guess it is probably a little like the whole freshwater vs saltwater aquarium debate... or like some strong tasting cheese or wine that you learn to aquire the taste for it as you mature etc...

Ok so now that i have managed to horrify and upset a lot of people its time to go out and water my trees...
