Hinoki Cypress Shohin?

G'day,

The other day I picked up this bushy little fella..
P1010692.JPG
Gave it a bit of a trim back to clear some space...
P1010694.JPG
Then wired it up a bit to turn it into this little Shohin sized (approximately 20cm high) tree.

P1010708.JPG
Have pinched out the pads to promote some bulk jinned a few of the branches and I'm going to leave him in this chunky pot to relax until next year.
Then I'll select a pot and once again try to continue some ramification.

Any thoughts? Ideas or suggestions?

 looks pretty good, maybe you could put a bit of a bend in the straight bit, but still, not bad at all :tu:

Thanks Fex.

Clearly had a bit of trouble with the picture posting!
If only I could see the damn code in it's entirety I'm sure I could fix the post in a matter of seconds..
** MODS ** Feel free to do so!

Now..

The straight bit..
It's DEAD straight no doubt and certainly not the most favorable element of my little tree.
Good to see you noticed it too ;)

Just a couple of pics to update on my little Hinoki which is very healthy and powering along.
Got around to attacking the straight section with a bit of a wire brace contraption.
Managed to get a few degree's out of it as the pictures show..

I'll wait for the bend to settle before a branch re-wiring..
It certainly needs it now because the new angle has thrown the composition out a bit.

The very next day I was rewarded with a little guest.
I've often seen pics with mushrooms and cool little natural gifts.
This is my first such treat. Alas it lasted only 1 day..

I find it interesting to update this one.
The tree has certainly filled out some since this project started!
I thought these were supposed to be slow growing?

What I find most "interesting" is that the bend in the trunk has completely vanished!
I must get the wire back on for a more extended period this time.....

Comments and suggestions always welcome.

My only advice would be to..GO SLOWLY..The cypress you are working on is prone to dieback from my experience if you go to hard. It starts with a bit of browning at the tips and before you know it, dead.

This one was starting to show some very green tips showing it was starting to grow again.
I had a pot kicking around that I had earmarked for the little guy and decided to drop him in.
I've got so many tree's in "grow pots" that I was keen to put another tree in a pot.

Not a whole lot happened since the last pics but I think the pot match is ok?

Happy to hear styling advise / thoughts etc.
Funny when one looks at the pictures I actually prefer the left hand side as a front?

Hi Boics, lovely little hinoki, it been a few years I was wondering if it was still around and how it's looking.
