this tree, also known as Micky mouse tree for its red Micky shaped fruits is not usually seen in the bonsai world. . I won this tree in our club raffle in 2010 not knowing what it was at first but was instantly drawn by its amazing trunk, dead wood, and great number of branches to work with. earlier this year i discovered that that they are usually difficult to collect with deep tap roots and in most cases dies when collected with out enough root. i was surprised then that such a large trunk had been collected by the previous owner.
in 2011 it was given a rough styling with the now back as the front. it never really worked well and so i left it to grow and gain more vigour untill now when i gave it its second styling. the back was changed to the front and the tree tilted to the right to further enhance the first primary branch. it was repotted after the wiring into a shallower pot.

Well done Hugh.

That is a great tree and a beautiful photo as well.
Look forward to seeing this one when it is finally rewarded with a Bonsai pot of choice.

P.S. Out of curiosity why did the top die?

thanks mate, the top was already dead when i acquired the tree so im not sure what happened to it. it was just a tall uninteresting branch anyway.
cant wait to get in into a pot either, ill start searching soon as i think it may take a while to find the right one.

Hi mate
very unfortunately and with much regret in my saying so, this tree died a few years back.
