It is a wasp, taking advantage of small to medium spiders.
It had to chew the legs off this one in an attempt to get airborne.

Ahh... very cool, I haven't seen one like it but get plenty of mud wasps, their nests are one thing, watching them on the hunt for baby food is another

Damian, That picture is a fine example of the Lesser Exhaust Pipe Blocking wasp. Next time you need to cut the grass and the mower and line trimmer refuse to start , - check the exhaust. That's where these guys prefer to make the nest for their young and you will probably find the exhaust filled with mud
