Ledanta Virtual Comp - June 2009

Hello all!
Here is the next virtual competition.
This is a poor old spruce that has been neglected for way too long! It is in need of a big overhaul!
The tree is Shohin size (ie. under 25cm tall).
Have a crack at creating a great virt and win yourself a prize.
Cheers,
Leigh.

I did mine, Basic little shohin nothing fancy.
I would just give it some tilt on repot however, once it's healthy enough (looks a little yellow?)
I can also see a nice little cascade in it as well, and would consider it as a possibility, I just cant figure out how to tilt it on the paint program.. If i was to cascade it i would have a pad system like the following...
._____ _______ _______
._________ _____
._____ _ ____

Sorry,
I forgot to mention that this comp will close at midnight 30 June 2009. This should give everyone enough time to come up with something. Dont forget, multiple ideas/virts will be accepted, so get creative.
Cheers,
Leigh.

Here is one of the possibilities I see and is one of my more favoured options.
Using the first image posted as the front, I tilted the tree anti-clickwise 40deg.
Remove the large trunk at the back (jin) and use only the two branches on the left hand side.Wire the cascading part and pad out the foliage. Heavy wire the straight trunk and bend to the left creating new apex. The removed back trunk should be wired to flow with the left side movement of the tree. Nice squarish or round pot would create a nice little semi-cascade.

i like the line of the trunk and the nebari is the nicest (from the photo's) from the angle in spruce 3.
so if this tree was mine, i would start by taking the main branches a little lower...
Spruce3explain.jpg
red=take branches lower, blue= nicer nebari than other shots
a little chop chop and compression of the branchlets into pads, and maybe after a year or two...

Another different semi cascade, from the other side. BTW, its a bad virt.

Here is a second attempt by me.
Still using the first image posted i rotated the tree 55deg clockwise. Jinned the large back branch as well as the large left hadn side branched that I used for a cascade in my previous virtual. I created a more informal upright tree that exposes the great movement in the trunk that could be achieve. You regrow your top using the existing straight up branch on the left hand side. This also improves the taper of the tree.

Hi all,
Keep the virts coming.
Even if you dont like the prizes, it is fun to have a go. It is also good for others to see differing ideas for the same material.
Cheers,
Leigh.

Anyone else care to show off their vision for this one? You can submit a scan of a line drawing/sketch if you prefer.
Regards,
Steven
