After realizing the importance of using the correct gauge of wire i went all out bending the following are the results.

I would mention that I feel that the Captain Cook bending is a little to straight on the horizontal plane that is of course if you do not intend on changing the potting angle

Well done good wiring helps greatly in producing great trees

its called a leptospemum nanum rubrum, one of my favourites

Keep praticing you will get there, do not cross wire as this create a pressure point which leads to swelling, keep it at 45 degrees or close to it.

A little bit closer to the the trunk, and the branches, you should only be able to put a peice of paper between them.

I don't like wiring, I used to wire a lot but can't be bothered anymore, would rather just clip and grow, takes heaps longer but you get much better results, I think some people find wiring therapeutic and quite enjoy doing it, there are situations where you have to wire though, I wire down all the new branches that pop out of the trunk area as they tend to try and follow the trunk straight up on some species.

Myself i think a mix of wire an clip an grow is best if you rule out one the tree be lacking in somethings as both methods have there advantages with my trees i wire alot getting branches into place an good shape. This year ive developed some trees very fast because of wire ive got primary an secondary branches looking good from here it will be clip an grow to get ramification an minor wiring to make slight adjustments. Im using this method of training on both olives an Chinese elms an very happy with the results

thanks for the pointers pup, i must say i got a bit messy with a few of them especially on the hinoki cypress lol!!!!! what i was surprised with was how easy it was to bend the casuarina considering the thickness of the trunk with a circumference of 5 inches at the base. ive got a couple of bent nose pliers to help with those hard to reach places.

That olives progress in 3 years is inspiring... Time to get my olives growing like crazy!
