Hi all,

Just a quick post to see if anyone has had experience with this species or an opinion on its suitability? I have jst recently picked it up at a wholesale nursery. Jester you may recognize it. as a size reference the pot is 200mm or 8 Inch. As the label states its a bosnian pine.

Heard the underbelly folk are making a tv show about you?

This I think would be similar in terms of the basics of keeping it alive to a Mugo... most two needle pines would be similar no?

It looks like a dwarf variety and as such, probably wont grow all that quick. Given that, you have plenty of time to watch the tree and learn about it.

I suggest paying a great deal of attention to it and learning through experience. Chances are you'll learn a fair bit just by inspecting the tree as it is. Looking for what the growth seems to have done over spring and whether it is still showing signs of growth. Also look at the buds to see if you can find any close to the trunk or on the trunk - if so you can be fairly certain it will back bud well but... probably unlikely haha.

I had a peak on the net and was surprised about how little results this yielded.
Probably the reason why the thread is a little quiet.

I can't see why the tree won't work as a Bonsai though?
Clearly may not be the "best" specimen to work with or it would likely be a little more popular.
Having said this by no means should project leucodermis be shelved!
I'd take it as a challenge - give it a crack and let us know how you go!

Mo this grows in a very similar area to mugos from what I can find on the net so I might take something from that. I live on the beaches in Sydney so I am sure I don't live in the most ideal climate for this species given its from the Bosnian hills but we do play with many trees out of the natural environment.

I am certainly happy to pioneer this species I was just sure I was not the first to have heard of it on this site but maybe I am. It is grafted so that may produce an ugly scar later on but having a look in and around the structure there are plenty of options. Looks fairly suitable for shohin.

That's what i'm gonna do if it's mine.
Keep posting so we can all learn from it's development. It has a very compact growth from what i can see from the photo which make it very suitable for shohin.
Lead the way my man.
