Japanese Quince From 'Skirt' Layer

Gday Team Oz!
Please find attached a photo of a Japanese Quince (
Chaenomeles spp) that I layered in Spring. As mentioned in the title, I employed the 'skirt' layer method to attain greater basal flare from the material presented. (For a blow-by-blow description of the method,
click here. The first work on this layer was documented at bonsaiTALK, and hopefully I can link to it soon...)

You can see that the flare is somewhat artificial at the moment, but I hope that this will change as the new tree ages.
Thanks.
Fly.

Hmmm... Perhaps it would sound a little more masculine if I hearkened to my distant Highland ancestry and called it a 'kilt layer'.
Och aye!
McFly.

A great example of Kilt layering (I think it should forever be known as kilt layering) Mr. McFly! Great photography too, the depth and sharpness are a credit to you!
What are your plans for this stocky little Quince?
Regards,
Steven
P.S. A friend of mine was in Scotland recently and his rental car broke down while passing through a small village. He asked a passerby where the closest mechanic was. The reply came "Och, no McAnic's around ere, we're mostly McManus' and McLoch's.

How do you buggers find time to do all this stuff??
I look forward to seeing your "blow by blow description". I've never attemted a layer of any kind before

Gday McMac and Co!
Since bT shows no signs of getting up soon, I'll post a few photos of the process here. The one linked in my original post is a River Red Gum, but the procedure is identical.

From memory, this work was performed in October of 2008. Any questions?
Thanks.

Gday Aaron!
I've had it for a couple of years now, but never seen it flower.

I was assured by the seller that it has a red flower - and I look forward to seeing it one day...
Thanks.
Fly.
