Hi there guys
where is the best place to got good stock trees in Adelaide. Im from the South east and heading to Adelaide tomorrow for a couple of days and want to buy some new stock trees to work with while im there. I have hearf of the "Spirit of Bonsai" garden. Has any one been there?

Shepherds Hill Recreation Park,Ayliffes Road, and Brown Hill Creek Recreation Reserve have some pretty good stocks of Olive, Boxthorn and Ash if you don't mind a little bit of work to collect it.

"Bonsai tree gardens" up the top of seaview rd. off one tree hill rd.-wed ,thurs, fri ,10am-5 pm---sun 11am-5pm ---- was good last time I visited--the last two attempts I chose the wrong days---- look carefully cos' signage is not very obvious

The one off seaview road is not bad, pricing I feel is good. They have heaps of pots. The one off Anzac highway has way better tree but no prices. They work out price on how much they think you know.

The Bonsai shop on Anzac Highway has good range of Bonsai and potential bonsai already in Bonsai Pots. They will not sell stock trees in plastic containers and as has been stated they are a bit dodgy on prices. Mostly high, but they have some good potential. Cath on Seaview Road has some good stock already potted into Bonsai Pots and a small section of un-potted plants. I bought some good ginko when I was last there. I would also try Hynes Nursery on Norwood Parade. It is a large general nursery but worth a try. There is a guy at Modbury (on the way to Seaview road from the city who advertises in Sat. paper. He mainly sells already potted "Bonsai". Some were a bit stick like when I was last there.
Have you ever been to Newmans Nursery - also out near Bonsai Tree Gardens (Cath)..Mainly cool growing camelias, azaleas, pines and deciduous. Beautiful nursery and worth a look. Should be good for growing in the South East

Well after visiting the spirit of bonsai garden today I can tell you that they have a great range of trees. The pricing was a bit steep but overall worth the visit. I haven't had a chance to take a look at the other places yet. Thanks for the recommendations guys.

If you have the time, head out to Virginia nursery, its about 40min from the city. It's a massive nursery, they have stacks and stacks of Maple stock, multiple varieties and ranging in age. From a couple of feet tall to 10 feet and 2 inches thick. They also have a large variety of pines and junipers. (All as plastic pot stock).

Heynes is good. I visited there on the weekend, seems they're running a bit low on stock of everything. Their pine / juniper selection has been a bit poor over the last year, and it seems they've just about run out of maples. Their bonsai section is piddly and not really worth a look.

I found spirit of bonsai on Anzac highway to be a criminal wrought. The woman tried to sell me 1m of medium gauge wire, scrunched up in a ball for $15. I was gobsmacked, I turned around and got out of there. They'll get what they deserve if they continue to treat people like fools and rip them off. I have vowed never to return.

I reckon the absolute best stock in Adelaide can be found once a year at the Annual Bonsai Show But I reckon you have to get in early because everything sells FAST!

yeah avoid that place just ask around at the bonsai clubs an you will know why.

as for wire ebay is your best friend

as for stock go to the local bonsai club show but yeah get there early

as for yamadori collect your self elms ash olives plus a few others can be found in S.A if you looking for olive brown hill creek is a must go to ive found great stock there
yeah some tree you collect may die but not all just practise an some luck. collect 10-20 a yr an you will find your self knee deep in trees in a few yrs
