Hi all, its been a while since i have posted anything up but thought i would share my success with the Fig sticks i got really cheap, it was touch and go there for a while but now there powering along and im very happy as this is my very first go with Bonsai's. anyways here are some pic's i would like to share.

And some cuttings i just jammed in some dirt and they took off too, still have to grab some new pots for them,



And some others i have picked up cheap along the way,






I also have something that has taken a liking to eating the lieave on one of the figs, i have looked for grubs etc but cant find anything and the figs also have little whiteish spots on the leaves, just wondering what i can do to sort this problem out, any help or info would be great as you can see they have gone from sticks to almost plant looking, i water them every afternoon and also feed them about 3-4 times a week with the same liquid fertilizer that i use i my veggies and other plants and they seem to love it..

Bit hard to tell exactly what's going on there Nial8r.

From what I can make out things are on the improve which is always a start!

Maybe set out the pics and the pots a bit more clearly and others might be able to give some more definitive advise.

I think some figs have little white spots on them naturally,but then again there are more knowledgeable people out there that know a lot more than me.

The actual quality of most of the pics is alright mate.
I'm just saying that the way your post is set out (meaning the format and notes) make it hard to follow.

You'll be right mate - just trying to be constructive.

something is eating the leaves but i have looked under every single leaf and cant find anything,




and could someone tell me were i should cut the little bit of wood off please as last time i did it ( just above new growth ) the new growth died now im left with this piece at the top and want it gone !!

Was the leaf damage from Leaf burn in the heatwave?
Looks like maybe due to the brown edge along it.

Defiliate them and see if the new leaves are OK.
Mos trees when you cut a branch die back to the next node. Japanes Maples you always leave a section to die back, othere wise it will dies back past your new node. Figs will be the same as shown in the last pic.

Now that the node has shot out, Cut the die back off to the new shoot and you will all be good

Thanks Ken i did notice one of the leaves thats looked like it had been eaten by something before the heat wave so i snipped it off but now there are these ones.

The white spots are perfectly normal. Indeed they usually appear on trees that are in good health.

The are actually salt glands that allow the tree to excrete excess salts if the tree absorbs an excess of fertilizer.

A great start on these trees. Either keep posting here for help in developing them, or, may I suggest joining a bonsai club where will get excellent advice.

Leaf damage may be caused by a caterpiller that feeds by night. Would be why you can't find him. From the look of the leaf, he'd be putting on a bit of weight by now.

Thanks for that info Dennis, they havent seen much fresh water as i water them everyday ( evening ) with my fertilizer that i water my veggies with, i might have to cut back on the fertilizer and start giving them fresh water just hope they havent turned in to fertilized addicts and go in to shock

ill keep posting here on the progress as im getting really good advice and help as a newbie to my new found hobbie

lol if it is a Catapilla it wont be long before a catch him because he is eating more than just one leaf so he will be to fat to make his quick get away before i inspect them at 6 in the morning and then he will be going on a size 12 Bluntstone diet

hi all hope everyones doing well with all these fires that are going on.

i have a couple of questions about a couple of my bonsai's and hoping the more experienced can help out i have done searches and even borrowed books from the library but still no joy

so here goes.......

my 2 little one bought me this "Coprosma" last year ( if you scroll up you will see it when i first got it compared now ) but now it was really taken off and i wouldn't have a clue how to shape it as its starting to look really untidy and i would like to give it its 1st manicure but don't know were to start so if someone could please shed some light for me please. here are some pics of the subject




Also i struck a heap of P.J figs and would like to know how to get them to start throwing some branches as its growing straight up, not all of the cuttings i struck are like this as when i put them in they already had off shoots that are now branches, anyways here are some pic's of one of the figs that are just growing straight up. i was going to pinch the center out of the top but thought i best ask first thanks in advance, Lee
