Lucky find - Cape Honeysuckle

While at the home improvement store a few days back, I was strolling through the plants as my lovely wife picked out some paint. I was browsing through the 1 cm trunks looking for anything interesting, and all the sudden this jumps out at me. The root spread is nearly 10 cm, and the base of the trunk is about 5.

Obviously I had to buy it since it was only $20. I'm still scratching my head and wondering who let this slip in with the other plants, but I don't mind. :lost: The leaves look like a decent size, and the trunk gives some really interesting options for styling. It should have orange flowers on it too which will be fun - I've been wanting a decent flowering tree for a while. Might help my kids get more interested too (they're both girls, so pretty flowers really get them). Here are front and back after repotting and cleaning up a little.

The cheap plastic pot is the only one I had around that would fit the tall root base - I didn't want to reduce it down too much right away. There is a plastic plate under there though so the roots should grow laterally and not straight down. Tomorrow I'll put some cut paste on to cover a few knobs I had to take off and then just let it grow for a bit. In the meantime, I'll be working on figuring out a good style for it, so please feel free to share your ideas!

Great base for $20!
I like the bark too!

Bargain!

Look forward to seeing how this one goes.
There are some great CH specimens I viewed on a quick google image search..

I haven't received any advice on this, and I think I will enter it into the shohin contest. Can I get an admin to lock or maybe even delete this thread to ensure I don't accidentally get a virtual that would disqualify me somehow? Thanks!
