Hi,

I have just found out about this company http://www.neutrog.com.au/product-brochures/ this evening. It is a SA based.

I have never used any of their products before. Have anyone used it please? And how do you rate it?

Thanks.

Love it. They came and gave a talk at our club about 2 years ago and handed out some samples. I use their Rooster Booster instead of DL as I have an account at Bunnings :palm: I am on my 6th bucket of Seamungus - use it every time I repot.

Thanks for the tip, I'm always keen to try out local products. I just ran out of DL the other day and was going to pick up another. I'll be giving this one a try now.

Well I think chook poo is chook poo  I just like the company and love a smaller business trying to make it. I use the empty seamungus buckets for work too :tu:

Seamungus is great stuff. It won't burn out your Rhododendrons and it will do good things for plants on the sick side of things. 2 buckets downed by my plants this spring/summer

I tried Seamungus, but reckoned it was too hard and did not break down fast enough.
I use Neutrog Sudden Impact for Roses instead.

Sprinkle a small handful onto the top each pot and it lasts for about 6 weeks. then reapply. I use about 2 buckets per year, mostly thu summer.
I just vary the amount on each plant, Azaleas and Natives get less, Figs, Bougy, and Pines get more

Hi Ken,

with the Seamungus were you using the pellets on top of or in your mix? I run your "Kens mix" of 1 part Zeolite to 2 parts Diatomite and was thinking of using the Seamungus pellets in the mix as a replacement for Osmocote when potting up. :lost:

If you've been there done that or reckon it's not a great option for Kens mix I'll probably give it a miss though. I noticed they sell a crumbling version of the Seamungus too. Have you tried that one at all?

Thanks,

Steve

Only problem with this product is that it attracts the beetles that lay eggs that hatch into root munching white curl grubs. :tounge: Two ways to get around it that I know of:

1.) Spread it thinly to avoid it caking and avoid piles of the stuff
2.) In material that you are growing on, put a layer in on top of your mix and then add a layer of 6mm (or thereabouts) stone chips about a cm deep on top. This acts as a barrier to the beetles.

As a precaution, soak your pots in water deeper than the pot once every three months for a few hours to kill the grubs if they are in there.

I'd not use it as part of a mix, but rather put it at the top. That way, the nutrient rich water reaches more of the roots as it percolates through the mix.

Lots of folk here use it and swear by it. Me included.

Cheers,

Andrew
