How NOT to prune

I drive by this acacia every day, and it catches the eye. As you drive by, it makes a nice rectangle (which is terrible for bonsai design). For a little while I wondered what natural circumstances allowed it to grow like that, but on closer inspection, this is just the result of terrible pruning.

Anyway, it is rather interesting. In a way I kind of like the sharp, nontraditional bends. If this were in a pot, what would the critique be at a show or club meeting? Thoughts?

I think its great, a line you will see often in penjing & literati styled trees. If I saw it at a show I would want it, cut the whole lot back to the branch that drops under the trunk loops back going behind the main trunk then shooting skyward...

I'm glad I'm not the only one that kind of likes it Matt. It seems like it would be a controversial design for a bonsai, but I don't think that's a problem. Sadly it's too big to dig up, and it would surely be missed out of the neighborhood park anyhow, but perhaps I'll begin styling one this way.
