Just thought i would post a quick "how to" make a cheap and easy stand with a swivel top to work on your trees.
1. go to local op shop (salvos/vinnies ect) and buy a cheap bar stool with swivel top. (make sure the swivel is solid and not elcheapo) 2. Look for drill in shed for 10mins then give up and get screw driver.
3. Pull the stool apart and remove what you don't want. 4. Look in the big container with thousands of screws in it for those 4 short screws you need that you know are in there.
5. While looking for screws find drill
6.Re attach the seat base to the swivel 7. A swivel stand ready for working on bonsai 7. 2 stands ready for use. The blue one I did a couple of months ago. The taller one at the back I did tonight. Total cost for tall one is $8 plus four screws. Cost for small one $5. The small one is good for working on the tops of trees or underneath tall trees. Tall stand is good for working on the bottom of smaller trees.
These are cheap and easy and work really well.

Excellant work, and they will last a long time.

The only thing i dislike about converted chair turntables is they do not have a brake so you cant lock the turntable. If you can work that out you would have a great cheap work stand!

Oops, too slow, Jow has got in ahead of me.
You may need to look at putting a brake or lock on those turntables. without some way of locking it you are likely to find the tree keeps moving while you are trying to work on it.

Thanks for the comments. The blue one I have used quite abit and haven't really had that problem with it turning yet. The turntable is stiff enough to hold. It could easily be done though by attaching a nut underneath and just screw a bolt (wing nut type) up to hold it. I like to be able to move the turntable as I work, especially when I'm wiring.

Why do you need 100 pairs of shoes when you can only wear 1 at a time?

Great work kids, the same result can also be achieved from old office chairs, they are given away free all the time on gumtree, plus have the benefit of being height adjustable, and mobile if you leave the wheels on.

This is how I made my 'turntable', about 20 years ago. Still got it and use it regularly. will try and get a pic - if it ever stops raining here.
