I'm no expert and don't know exactly where you are located but:

only place I've seen JBP is at Bonsai Emporium on West Swan Rd. They have a range of them from seedlings to older more developed 'bonsai in training'. You can also get Chinese Elm and Trident Maples there.

Lee's Bonsai has CE and Tridents.

Only place I've seen Japanese Maps in Perth is in the Coventry Markets in Morley. A guy has a space there with about 25 bonsai, and often has a small table of seedlings. One or twice I've seen a JM seedling there.

Good luck to ya!

G'day Bada,

Yes the Coventry markets. His name is Parvis. He is very knowledable about tree's and he definately has Japenese red maple seedlings along with English Oak etc. He loves exotics.
Among other things I have bought my Japenese Maple and Chinese Elm off of him. He is a great guy.

Keep trying to convince the missus to take me down to the one at Conventry Markets.

I was going to also suggest Bonsai Emporium, they have a lot of stock

Bonsai Emp and Lee's have variously had JBP and JM.

Bunnings occasionally has a sad, (overpriced) maple

Note that Japanese maple is very unsuited to Perth summers - especially the wind.

Chinese Elm is everywhere and grows like a weed.

Have been told this myself too, on a few different occassions.

Glad I heeded the advice too, there was a nice JM at dawsons that I was eyeing off. Went back after the heat wave's, and there was pretty much only a stick left

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies,

I've checked out lee's and they didn't have much in the way of stock plants this was last week, might just be the time of year. The couple of JBP's they had which where not potted and pruned as bonsai where quite expensive. They had a few maples but as already suggested these have taken a hammering over this summer being so hot.

It looks like bonsai emp had better stock of JBP / Maples currently, but they too either have very young seedlings a year or so old or already potted and pruned samples, one was actually quite good for the price.

I was hoping their might have been a source of more advanced unpruned stock floating about but i guess everyone is in the same boat =o)

I may have to buy some younger plants and either ground plant them for a couple of years or training pot them

What about Tridents - how do they do over in Perth ? I know here in Brissy I have had no luck with Japanese maples but Tridents seem to cope quite well up here.

I've seen a couple at dawson's nursery, however a lot of them are tall and thin with very little lower branches, so it MIGHT be worth a look. They aren't looking very happy at the moment though after the heat wave

I thought Lee's was great... but then I was really only focusing on the natives they had :P

Other then that, Coventry Markets in morley, they have specifically advertised JM seedlings on gumtree :)

I found the add for ya: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/morley/o ... 1012975973
