ID native yamadori

Hey Izzy, its a Hakea, not sure which particular species but a spatial search on Plantnet with your location & the genus should narrow the list for you.

Thanks Matt. I'm trying to work out if its worth digging the better ones, if they are not suitable for bonsai training I'll just pass.

I wish you well on the journey, so far no luck this side with digging one so if you get success share your methods .. please... beg.. plead... I have a field of them I would kill to collect but all of my test subjects that were more than seedlings have never made a year, most dont make a month.

Matt have you tried water and gravel? Works great with natives I have tried so far.

Maybe this is a calothamnus? Any seed pods on the wood?
