I collected these Celtis stumps about 6 weeks ago. They reshot strong but in the last week or so I've noticed this sudden wilting. I had to ground plant because it was an emergency collection and I didn't have any potting supplies. I suspected root rot but I dug the soil and its fine (we are sand here anyway). Other option is maybe the hort oil I sprayed on it two weeks ago? (We have lots of sooty mould, ants, aphids, miners here so did that as a preventative). Other option fert burn? About the same time sprinkled a tablespoon of d lifter around the stumps. Probably all stupid stuff - I am competely inexperienced with collected trees. So someone helping me to solve my stuff up would really help.

I would like to share a couple of thoughts with you.

A tree of this size has a lot of sap and can through out new shoots fairly quickly. Unfortunately this doesn't mean the tree will survive. I have had this happen with large cuttings.

I would try to get rid of all the Dynamic Lifter. Mix a bucket of Seasol, at the 25ml per 9 litre rate, and pour that around the tree. Do this at least once a week.

I hope you will be able to save the tree.

I knew stored energy could put out shoots but kinda thought 6 weeks and they were safe. But you're probably right. The stump in the first photo looks the healthiest of the three I collected and the one in the second photo the sickest. No coincidence that the first stump had the most roots and the second stump had the least... I've just dug out the top soil and replaced it with unferted soil. Will get some seasol ASAP and ensure chicken soup and bed rest for the three of them.

Just keep the seasol up and hopefully it will reshoot. I never use chook poo on anything collected or anything bare rooted for a month at least. It has to be throwing out lots of leaves and shoots before the fert will be beneficial. I have only ever lost one of these I have collected. Probably still a bit warm to be collecting but keep an eye on it for at least 6 months. Sometimes they take an age to reshoot. Good luck
