G'day,

I purchased this unknown species on Saturday from the sale of Canberra bonsai pioneer Judy P's collection.
No one was able to identify it. Can you help please?

Thanks in advance,
Steven

At a wild guess, could it be a single flowering cherry like Prunus "Okame"? Better idea of course when it flowers.

I would have to agree. The colour of the stems and the leaf shape definitely looks like Prunus Okame to me.

The flowers almost look like a variety of weigela. I will be interested to see what happens to the tree over winter. I love the trunk by the way!

Obviously Steven, you've grown the wrong flowers on it. And at the wrong time of year. Tut tut.

Hi Mate,

I would guess that it is a Prunus Cerasifera (Myrobalan Plum). They produce white flowers in winter through early spring. I haven't personally seen one in flower though. Beautiful little tree though!

Just dug my species book out! Could be a Prunus Serrulata 'Shirotae'. It makes mention of the fragrant white flowers on this species.

Those waxy flowers do look wiegela-ish. Well picked James, I think.
