My local club had a show today and I thought I would share a few highlights from my neck of the woods. I was hoping for more Aus natives, but aside from a few ficus benjamina, this melaleuca huegelii was it. There were a couple of big bougie stumps, this one was the most refined. Shohin Japanese maple with some impressive leaf reduction. Biggest tree of the show, a foemina juniper. Overall, it was a good show and the wife and kids liked it too. Probably the best thing is that now I know my wife really likes forest plantings, so I'll be sure to work on one of those pretty soon, I have a plan already. Hopefully I'll have something ready to show next year.

The lack of Aus natives was a bit disappointing. I'll have to show them how well they grow, because mine are the happiest things in my backyard right now, and I think they'll be the best I have before very long at all.

Thanks for sharing. Nice to get the wife involved too. Gotta kee them happy You could lead the way with Aussie natives and show them how it's done, then tell them about this site after they praise your effects. When I was in New Jersey I was drooling over the trees that were for sale over there. I loved the colour that was showing as they changed for autumn. Everywhere I looked there was amazing colour.

It's funny how perspective shows up on photos. I just realized that from those and right after the shohin maple, the juniper probably doesn't look like it's three feet tall, but it is! The Foemina junipers are pretty popular around here. Everybody seems to want to create their own version of Goshin, which is completely understandable.

Josh, I was surprised how much the wife liked it. All my trees are in training, and she seemed to enjoy seeing something a little more finished. New Jersey would have good fall colors, sadly we don't get much around here as our winters are too mild.
