Put on Wire now, and then put it in the ground
I have lots of trees in the ground that have wire on them already :-)

if i were to put it in the ground id want to plant on top of a tile. that means playing around with its roots i was going to wait till late winter/early spring before i repot or plant it. tho im thinking ill wire it up tomorrow then remove the wire before winter sets in. im hoping to end up with something like this many year in the future.......

Seems like putting it in the ground once cascade styled would not work very well since cascade style goes below the rim of the pot, which is essentially the soil line if you're talking about the ground. Pretty sure if you bury your cascade branch you won't like the results when you dig it up. Cascade style isn't really about thick trunks anyways, so I don't think I would worry about ground growing if that's what you're after. :2c:

hmm very true.. ill only wire the orange branch for now then. im still wanting to grow it in the ground because the trunks is pencil thick. thanx for the :2c: .......

all im trying to achieve here is the basic shape of the main trunk. after a repot ill have at and it and wire the hole tree and select the branches i want to keep. ill make sure to take it slow with this one.

im not sure if this will work. the way ive shaped the top trunk means that the blue branch will grow back along and trunk line in the opposite direction to fill in the front of the trunk. the blue branch will be over the top of the green tunk kind of looks a little odd, i think. all the red lines will become the new branches. can someone help? maybe someone else can suggest how i can shape the top trunk. anyone??

Ground growing of cascade stock is easily achieved by tilting the plant so it grows along the ground instead of down, the trick with it is to ensure you train the roots to follow the eventual line th pot will take IE under the line of the growth. Another way is to build a raised growbed & plant your stock at the edge so it can be trained down the side of the bed.
