Hi,

I took this tree to a Uchi workshop today. I have had the tree for 11 years and have ( like my Yatsabusa ) been trying to fatten up the graft.

The workshop was a chance to learn more about the Technics used with JBPs and I wasn't disappointed,Uchi was very informative despite the language barrier.

I found some at one of our local nurseries. Picked up one of them but its only a baby so no bark yet.

I have been drawing on various pine workshops over the past 18 months,the latest is Grant Bowie's series of 4 over 12 months. After Grants I am hoping to cement the various yearly pine Technics in my head so I can refine the ones I have.

Looking great Peter, It is a bit hard to tell from the pics but did you decandle this year?

Would you decandle every year as part of regular maintenance?

Looking very good peter. Job well done. Nishiki are not easy pines to keep, compared to normal JBP.

Sorry missed your post. In the past I have only removed the strong candles and left only 2 smaller. This year I will remove all. I am a slow learner with the pines but with Grants help I am understanding more on how,when and why.

Interesting comment Neli, I have not heard this method can you tell us more?

the taper and bark difference at the moment looks obvious-----interested to hear your technique to resolve that graft problem --will the reverse taper increase as the tree ages?
