Does anyone know what this tree is? It seems to be deciduous, turns yellow/orange about this time of year and drops leaves by winter. It seems to have paperbark.

I'm not expert at the ID thing, but I would think that even someone who knows their trees would need a close up of a leaf and probably the bark too to give you an answer.

This. Bougy can obviously identify trees even from a distance.

People Bonsai them, but I haven't so can't tell you anything about them.

Thanks, that's great. It's one of my favourite trees.

I know this is a late ID on this, and noted there was no confirmation on your ID. But there are plenty of crepes in Orange, most of them Lagerstroemia indicas. , seems to have the same leaf shape as the one you've shown too. They have brilliant bark texture, Love 'em!! So, gotta agree with Dusty Rusty! The type of flower will give you a more specific ID on that too.

PS. love well drained humus rich soil. I also noted some in town had quite a bit of powdery mildew.

Thanks! I got a hybrid one last week. The tag claims its mildew resistant. It'll have white flowers if it lives. I'd show it but its just a stick in a pot.

Lovely trees they are.
If yours is too long then trunk chop hard, and then plant out to grow. Much faster in the ground.
