some of you will remember my "Journey of 200 desert ash" thread on bonsai talk. yep almost 4 yrs ago i picked at least 200 seedlings out of my fathers vege patch.( the whole back yard is a vege patch) this is just one of the many plantings i did. the configuration was put together into a poly box 3 yrs ago and clip and grow since. it was repotted 2 yrs ago. should be done annually as the roots fill the box in no time. the root pad is almost fused so there is no mucking around with placement. these trees do have compound foliage, they can be defoliated up to 4 times a year in the right conditions, so if the canopy structure is kept simple they look quite acceptible with a new flush of growth. im about to do the repot and a little trimming and wiring so just wondered what ya all thought. if this group were yours what would you do from here.

I will be Starting to control the height of each tree to build the outline, and to start to build the branch structure

If it were mine Anttal, i would remove the little tree with the bend in it about a third of the way into the planting on the right because it contradicts the rest. I would remove the largest tree on the left side as it to me looks out of place. I would remove a few of them about a third of the way in on the left side to create a path through there to add both interest and perspective. I would start to work on SOME ramification, but not over the top, it will need light for the smaller trees within the group to survive and i would start to pick an outline and possibly, very selectively remove a few of them that dont fit with the flow you desire. All all in all, an exciting planting to be working with. The smaller trees need to be seen to reach out in order to get past the foliage above.
Pleasing to see someone with the foresight to start this type of thing out from the start. Well done.

You wouldn't take my offering for a simply issue like root bound tree's, what makes you think I could offer anything to someone who has worked on enough tree's to last a lifetime?

Here is an alternative, maybed removing the dominant trees on the sides of the composition, or at least the one on the left side, even though I do like the inclination it has...
