Hi Gang,

I've recently been trying to locate (without success) a small flowering cherry, for the garden of my new house. Once established, I'm also hoping to use a few cuttings for future bonsai.

Ideally I'd like to find a Prunus 'Kojo-no-mai' or Prunus 'Okame'. Either that of something similar which produces single pink blossoms.

Does any one know or could recommend of anything available around the Adelaide area or further if delivery is possible?

Do any nurseries near you sell Flemings stock?

Ray Nesci has Prunus Okame, but is in Sydney.
If anyone coming over this way, they could pick one up for you.

A lot here sell Flemings trees but only a certain number of varieties and none that I'm looking for. I could order one but I've checked and even Flemings have sold out of their stock this season.

If all else fails, I'll just have to wait until next season and get my order in early.

Does anyone have experience growing either Prunus 'Okame' or Prunus 'Kojo no mai'? How well do they go as bonsai and anything in particular to look out for when growing/training?

Prunus okame are exellent for bonsai. smaller leaves than most cherries. they flower extremely well and develope branches easily.

Growing Cherries from cuttings might be a challenge, but by all means if you can find the plant material to try it, why not give it a go?

I bought some seeds online this year to try, they're currently stratifying in the fridge. Good luck on your search, hope you find one of these wonderful trees!

Which variety did you get Phoenix238? I've heard Okame needs a little more care during our warm summers here in SA.

They're labelled "Prunus Serrulata 'Pink Cloud'" if that helps

okame grows well in warmer summers and takes easily from cuttings. i will send you one reddragon
