I have been looking at the way the chinese use roots to turn them into a trunk, but there was no explanations.

Do a reverse image search through google, it'll show you most links where the photos are being used.

This is the man responsible...
MIN HSUAN LO he is amazing!
His blog is excellent and it is well worth going through all of his blog, I learnt a lot from it. He is very open about sharing bonsai techniques.
The making trunk from roots post is fantastic..."How to rapidly enlarge the size of Fortunella Japonica"...
http://bonsailo.blogspot.com.au/2012/09 ... ze-of.html
I also loved the post on "Jade Mountain Impression" as it shows (amongst other things/techniques), how you deal with the root ball when you change the planting angle of the tree and as a result a portion of the roots stick above the rim of the pot...I had always wondered about this issue...Jade Mountain Impression---Juniperus squamata...

A big thanks to Jow for making me aware of this blog
Cheers, Dario.
