Hi all,

I've been trying to get my hands on some coco peat blocks but can't find any
Tried many nurseries,Kmart,target home bunnings etc
No luck at all.

Can anyone point me in the right direction ?

Bunnings do have coir peat blocks that I thought were the same thing till the rep told me otherwise.

I have used coir peat from bunnings
and coco peat from Sage Horticultural.
It has been suggested they are the same thing (the blocks look the same) but the product from sage is better in my opinion. The Bunnings product has too many large woody chunks.

I've also been searching for some, but haven't managed to find any

So is coir an ok replacement for coco?

Coir and coco peat are the same. Usually marketed as the former. The bunnings rep doesn't know what he is talking about. If you buy Coir Mulch from bunnings you'll have woody chunks. This is probably why hes confused. The normal Coir block is quite fine. You can tell just from the look of it. If you have no bunnings get it from Enfield produce or some stockist online.

Good stuff by the way, very cheap and better for the environment than spaghnum.

lol no probs, the only reason I knew about it is I started that thread a little while ago

The Coco peat block marketed by Brunnings (note the 'R' please) is available in a number of stores. Most Retail Nurseries sell Brunnings product and if they do they sell the peat blocks. It can also be obtained from either of the large Supermarkets, if they have a Garden products section, where they sell potting mix and usless little garden trowels and other stuff like that. Coco peat is Coco peat. The only difference between it and Coir blocks is the packaging - and the price. Dusty is right about the Coir Mulch, but it is Coir block/coco peat used for our purposes. I have used Mulch in potting mix before, but only as an emergency when I had to. Found it terribly wastefull as I had to seive it before use.

I'd say your local was just out of stock, which seems to happen a bit at mine as well (they run out of stock, that is).

Coco peat is one of the best organic soil products derived from coconut husks used in the garden for healthy plant growth. It is becoming more popular day-by-day as it is more useful for plant growth. It is less expensive, saves water, and is environmentally safe to use.

If you are in search of buying coco peat then give first preference to your local manufacturer or seller as they provide you the best service within a short period of time or you may reach there within a less period of time.

Finally, It's your choice i.e., either you may contact the local coco peat supplier in your area or order it online with trustworthy suppliers.

Big W have the 9 ltr blocks for under $3.00ea. It's good stuff.

Hey Damian, every big w I went too didn't have any so ended up getting what I needed from
sage horticultural in Cheltenham. After having a good look at the fine coir peat at bunnings it looks like the exact same thing.
