Hi guys, I work around the Mascot area and directly across from my work is the old Aristocrat (poker machine manufacturer) factory.... I can see at least five sweet looking trees, and they are all on the roof growing from the gutters. they aren't small either some of them are at least five foot tall and the roots must be growing in leaf litter so they should be very easy to pull out.

whats the strangest place you have collected trees from???

I have collected figs growing out of gutters and also growing out from parapet brickwork walls.

Ditto - I also had to hang over a brick wall once to get a fig growing out of a rainwater head at Spring Hill once.

Not me but a mates father collected a PJ from a palm tree in a Subiaco park.

Hanging off a cliff for me, didn't have a harness but I had rope for wrapping up the root balls with plastic. Tied it round my waist, clenched my teeth and went for it. Got a real nice lepto out if it. It's still kicking too. I think next time ill just remember the spot and convince someone to join me in case something goes wrong.

Why is it always figs that end up in odd places.. collected my big raft ficus from the side of a steep hill, then slid 80mtrs down it on my butt, tree held firmly to my chest so it didnt get damaged...

Gutter figs, gutter figs everywhere

I have spotted a few microcarpa Var? clumps growing between some large piping on a bridge near my folks place. Only problem is that they are elevated about 10 metre + above some fairly busy train lines. Havent tried yet but that'll be the strangest length ive gone to, to collect.

There are a few Figs growing out of the wall opposite platform 23 at Central Station in Sydney when I was last there. I wonder if they will still be there when I am next in the area.....

I tried the same not long ago in a park in Sydney, but it was stuck in too hard and need a ladder to get up to get a better angle on it

On our old place, wandering along with camera, skirting a granite cliff on the edge of a SERIOUS gorge and noticed a couple of big clumps of orchids - nice for a photo. BUT...

The orchids were on a "stack" that had broken away from the cliff, on the face of the gap between, only a small gap to the stack (bit under a metre), serious drop on three sides (100m+) and about 30m to bottom of gap, and a small clump off to the side waiting to be collected (not rare, bit unusual in our old area, and a great memento now that we've moved on). Reasonable with heights, but "edges" are my nemesis.

They reward me every year with flowers but thinking of taking that step over, collecting and back, still makes me sweat, knees weaken and insides flutter as if infested with butterflies!

The things we'll do! Phew! I'll stick to battling angry ants in future!
