this is the largest of the 4 i currently have as i had almost every seed germinate and had so many i had to give them away...lol
I plan to prune this back HARD and repot in the next few weeks.

Anybody have any luck with hard pruning of these trees?
also, can a larger cutting be rooted? (cloned)

Albisia cuttings root very easily and back bud well too.
I got the off cuts from the one I trimmed, and as a joke, just stuck them in the same pot on the sides on full sun...they rooted all.

So I might be able to wacky it a couple inches above first set of little branches and slap the rest in another pot I got laying around?

How much pruning to stimulate backbuding in general?

Im excited to finally be getting to a point to start pruning... Just don't want to f it up...

I can not see your pictures well. Are you sure this is albisia... albisia has acacia like composite leaf...Your leaf dont look like that to me.
This is albisia leaf:

The trees look very thin to me. I would let that tree grow to thicken first...in large container or in the ground, on full sun...I would not chop it now...Any chop will set back the plant and delay trunk thickening.
It depends on the plant how much it back buds. Apical dominance makes the plants shoot mostly from the last few buds. It depends also when you cut and how much you cut. Some plants can back bud all over some just at the end.

Mine have what seem to be white bark on the trunks, and maybe will have the full 6 pair of leaves as they get older I guess. It does fold up at night...
