Crab Apple

I purchased a crab apple while in Melbourne in June. I noticed yesterday that is starting to show new leaf buds. It thinks its spring despite night time temps in Broken Hill
being down to 1-6 degrees but daytime temps are around 18 and sunny. I am keen to put this tree in a bonsai pot but will have to trim roots. Is it too early to muck around
or will it be o.k. I cannot slip pot it as I want to put it in a shallow pot.
Please advise
regards
Dennis

Hi Dennis, strange times hey.
When you say trim the roots, how severe of a root reduction is needed to get it into a smaller pot?
I think that would influence your decision on when you repot. Also do you have a greenhouse?
Cheers, Dario.
