This one is Massey rose which is a soft pink stellata hybrid with relatively small flowers and a very compact habit. I have grown them from tube stock over quite a few years.

Andrew and Ken, your not wrong about the centre tree, its the one I have ear marked as a keeper for now anyway. There are a few more I put back in the ground so will see how they develop.
The magnolias develop very coarse roots in the ground it will be interesting to see if they develop more fibre in the diatomite mix.

I have some young magnolia trees growing tall that I wish to bonsai. When is a good time to cut them down. Can they be cut and how do they react to cutting. It is a grandiflora (little gem)

Beautiful trees Craig! I have a Japanese maple of yours that I bought through Chojo. One of my favourites.
