This Chinese Juniper has me stumped. I studied this forum, I scoured the internet, I read every book I have, and I have not a clue what to do with this...

I would make the back the new front and stick it in a different pot.

***edit - though now I look again I think it angles forward too much for it to be the front. I also like the view of the left side as a new front. But I'm no expert.

I'm not one to give styling advice, still beyond my level, but there is definately something there to work with :)

You could trim the main branch back, and select a new leader to work with, which might allow for some better brach structure. That's just :2c: from someone who is still trying to understand the art himself :P

Yes same, please ignore my advice, it's just what I'd do with it. But even with all the pics it's hard to make styling decisions without seeing it in the flesh. It is definitely a nice tree, wish it was mine.

one thing for sure it needs wiring. There are plenty of branches to choose from, Id start with the left hand side pic as the new front and wire the top half over to the left a bit to give the trunk some better movement. Or use the right hand side as the new front and take the long branch on the left and wire it down as the bottom branch and select branches above it as you want.
just my :2c:

I agree with Damien the left side is your best option, go with that and practice your wiring on so old twigs and branches. There is a good one on wiring here, on the site.
Go into Tips and maintenance, it is a sticky so read that and you should be able to master the wiring.
Cheers Pup

Wait.
Just put on the bench and leave it there for a few months, or years, until you see the tree you want. :2c:

Pretty sure it is "Sargentii" and it has a lot of options. For a start i would be wiring everything and playing with branch positioning or start looking at Bonsai photos to get some inspiration.

One option is to apply heavy wire and apply a dramatic bend in the trunk making the current apex into a primary branch.

this is an example of what I am trying to say.
You then choose a new apex from the middle branches

cover the first or second branch with a handkerchief and see what you've got reckon one or the other COULD go

as guy says, i think the second ( back branch )can go/
The first can be shortened or bent more on the outer bit to bring back in to the trunk

Yep that is the one
Try hiding it with a bit of paper and see what you think
