This afternoon I waded through the weeds, hacked through the vines, fought off fierce tigers and found a Trident Maple that I had forgotten all about
She was a biggen from what I remembered.
Last time I laid eyes on it, it was a mere twig which I shoved into the tomato box and promptly forgot about
Don't let the phone camera fool you, it actually has nice taper and some nice lines to boot
It is however firmly rooted into the ground like many others in that part of the yard

Looks like a trunk chop is in order!

All done.

Nice trunk with some good sacrafice branches. It should grow well now it has taken hold.
Try some fertiliser really high in nitrogen and it should put some weight on. I used this stuff last year it had an npk
35 10 7 or something like that and all my trees grew like crazy with long internodes, corse growth and got thick fast .

Getting thick fast is good but I would be concerned about those long internodes. I assume you are going to cut right back lower than those long internodes again?

Damian, do you have a new pic of where you cut back to? That first branch looked like a good candidate to create a mini.
