On Father's Day, I collected the remnants of this juniper from a property down the road from me. The owner had been in the process of removing this juniper and so had cut off the very lush foliage it had only days earlier. He gave me ten days to get it out, but it only took 3 hours.
Here's the tree in the back of my car. Photos of the back of the tree and the root ball. Planted now in my backyard in a shaded spot to slowly recover. Closeups of the remaining buds. This is my inspiration for this tree, Kimura's Dragon. Should mine survive, I will call it The Wyvern.

I started by removing as much detritus as I could reach, and applying cut paste to the larger wounds. Looks betting by daylight.

I'm glad you posted the dragon because I was thinking "what on earth are you going to do with if?" Hope it lives just to see what it can become.

Good luck... Although its chances are slim, definitely worth the effort.

Water it with seasol but also spray the foliage and the trunk/branches with seasol as well. I'd spray the whole lot 2-3 times a day. It doesn't have roots to provide moisture so you need to you.

Thanks all for the well wishes. I hope it makes it. Josh, it has a root ball, now buried. I have been advised not to over water lest the roots rot. So steady as she goes.

Hi Shane,

It's said that collected Junipers can sometimes have a better chance of survival if the roots/rootball is put into a smaller pot than you may ordinarily use. Rather than a room to grow pot, use a no room to grow pot and pack the roots in.
Watch your soil watering and make sure the soil is quite freedraining, misting foliage can be more beneficial than soil watering wilst not neglecting the roots. Shaded spot until recovery.

3 months and you shodu know whether it is gone, and 6 months you will knwo if it survives.

Agree not to over water as the roots will rot easily. This is the same reason to spray the foliage/trunk. You may have a root ball but it won't be doing much yet except for trying to recover. Spraying the foliage will help to reduce the stress on the rootball and lose of moisture.
