Hey all,

Thought I'd share the strange progression of one a root over aquarium decoration that I started back in 2010. At the time I was pretty new to bonsai and didn't really know what I was doing or how to do things correctly.

So I got a small aquarium temple decoration:

Got my small Ficus rooted cutting:

Placed it over the temple:

Covered in foil:

And planted it:

So yesterday I set out to get some more roots coming off of those thick roots. I pulled out the drill and drilled some small holes in the thick roots:

Covered them in rooting hormone:

And surrounded the holes with sphagnum moss:

We'll see where it goes from here!

Do you work at the rooting hormone factory Ryan ? :o I would have cut pout that huge bulbous root - I have a particular dislike for those roots on figs. Progress looks good and it's good you didn't plonk the tree directly on top :tu:

Great stuff buddy! I would love to one day combine my love for bonsai and fish with either a bonsai/aquarium...or more likely bonsai/koi pond combo.
