Hi all,
here is a small maple I re potted just recently. I have just put it in this pot as a test for size. ( not style and colour as its an ugly pot but it was only $2) But I think it needs something slightly larger and deeper?
Pot selection is one thing I need help with as I am not great at pairing trees and pots.

Maybe same size but in and oval for Maple?
Also plant to the right side of the pot, so the Apex is more to the Center of the pot.

I've never concurred with anything more that this.

Looks to be a nice tree too, please do post some pics of the tree while dormant if possible.
Cheers,

Hi all,
I was looking to style this one something more like semi cascade? I have seen an amazing A. palmatum on a website which inspired me but I cannot seem to find it.

I have attached a link of a series of trees here and one is of a semi cascade maple for a bit of an idea of what I was trying to achieve.
I think based on this, the position of mine in its pot is not such a concern but certainly a round or oval pot suggested has credit. Thanks Ken

Thanks for posting the link - that's a very fine sideways maple indeed. Unless you have such a strong bend at the base, you may have trouble making yours lean that far. Your pot size seems fine to me - with little maples, it often comes down to - what can you keep alive through summer? Too shallow and small means you have a marginal tree. The soft corners on the pot suit the maple just fine. Best of luck with it long term.

H Gavin,
Cheers for the feedback. Under that foliage it has a bit of an elbow in it and I guess i imagine it might need to be angled over a few degrees more to the left to get the semi cascade thing happening. My thoughts are to slip pot it now that I see this and get it in something slightly deeper and wider to allow me to do so. It has only been in this pot for a few weeks so I might leave it for a little longer before I disturb the roots.
Cheers
